5 STEPS TO MAKING AN OUTFIT IN UNDER 5 MINUTES

Theo Pace

6uDbZ0SA.jpeg

Hello beautiful ladies!

I just wanted to share some helpful tips on the most asked question I get which is; how do you get dressed and look cute in a rush? Any other personal stylist would say to plan out your outfits the day prior, but let’s be honest that's not always an ideal goal. I was never great at pre planning. I think I have mastered the whole ‘getting ready under five minutes’ like a pro through lots of practice.

Let me tell you how I do it and what works for me.

STEP 1

● Where you are going? What's the weather going to be like?

As soon as you know those two important things, then you'll have an idea of the level of dress and if you'll need layers. I will give you two scenarios today. Maybe you'll be going to a kid's activity/running errands or going out to lunch/dinner. You should keep these two questions in mind! This will help you narrow down the outfit choices.

STEP 2

● Pick your Base: Doesn't Necessarily Mean a Bottom

I recommend thinking about what is the most important part of the outfit…

Let's say in this case, I'm going to the barn for Alex's riding. The base I usually choose will be something that will go with closed toe shoes! That is a no brainer!

Now at a restaurant think about what the focal point will be. I always focus on what you will see above the table from the waist up. I suggest making the point of interest, a bold statement blouse or an accent piece of jewelry. Perhaps, something that will start up a conversation.

STEP 3

● Add the next layer!

After I select my base item I think about what I would pair it with for the occasion. For the barn (errands or other kids’s activities) I might pick a graphic tee or plain tee to pair with a pant. At the restaurant, I would pick a more basic piece for a bottom if the top has more detail and is more unique. Keep in mind the first two questions here and keep your layer simple if there is some drama in the base!

STEP 4

● Shoes!

Now at the barn the obvious choice is a closed toe shoe but you can still pick a stylish sneaker to partner with your casual and comfortable outfit. At the restaurant you will want to focus on the level of dress, yet again something comfortable but fashionable. I always consider my environment and restaurant setting. What is the atmosphere going to be? Will I be walking to and from the restaurant? This could lead you to a wedge and a short heel that is comfortable to walk in but still adds great style to your outfit.

STEP 5

● Accessorize!

Normally when I talk about accessories, I think of it as wrapping up the outfit with finishing touches. Add something that will pop off your base items. So a belt, for the barn of course since I don’t usually look all dolled up. Perhaps, a denim jacket or vest over a plain or graphic tee. Accessories can vary. Statement or dainty jewelry can easily bring an outfit together, or a hat to top it off! If it’s too warm and you have enough drama with your clothing try a pop of color on the lips.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Those are the five tips! Remember the setting, the weather, plan your base accordingly, and choose wisely in accent pieces of clothing or accessories. I hope this was helpful, I enjoy sharing with you all my tips to create an easy method to getting an outfit whipped up in a few minutes and actually looking like you took time to get your outfit ready.

P.S I created a cheat sheet for you to keep in your closet or by your mirror to help you keep these tips in mind.

Please let me know what other topics I should bring to you ladies!

Best Way to Add Color to Your Wardrobe

Sol Operation Solutions

DSC00401.JPG

Are you in a color rut? or a "colorless" rut might be a better way to describe it! Is your closet full of black and neutral pieces?

I bet every time you wear color you receive lots of compliments. I'm also willing to bet it's an instant mood booster. I know it is for me! And, in 2020, who can't use a mood booster!

Did you know that wearing specific colors, (color therapy) has been used in spiritual and chakra healing for many years to help raise good vibrations? It really works!

It would be very easy to recommend changing your nail polish, adding a pop of color to your handbags or shoes and those are great ways to bring in colors but are still a little non-commital.

Here are three great ways to bring color to your wardrobe to brighten your complexion and your mood. These suggestions will add color to where it matters most (to your face), they don't have to cost a lot of money and won't create outfit dilemma by making them difficult to style.

1) Tops and Tees

Tees are easy because they don't have to cost a lot of money and you can accessorize with a necklace or fun scarf to make your outfit look more than just a tee and bottom. Try using the scarf around your waist or belt loop to coordinate the whole look. If a tee is too casual for what you need try a cardi layering piece combo. aka as twinset. this doesn't have to be your mother’s twinset, it can be very updated by wearing the cardi tied and worn across your shoulders, around your waist or "shoulder robed" just covering your shoulders.

2) Dresses

These don't require a lot of fuss because you pretty much have one piece to worry about and all you have to style is the shoes. You can have a little more fun here by making it a dress in a print. Find prints you love...geometric, floral, large floral?

Dresses are a great way to spruce up your wardrobe. With an easy shoe and accessory swap, you can go from casual to dressy in a minute!

3) Let’s Talk Makeup

Shake up the lipstick and shadows. You don’t have to be super bright, just bringing your lip color up a notch will do the trick! Pre-COVID, I was in a HUGE makeup rut…I noticed how much better I looked on video calls with just a pop of color on my lips. I still love my natural, neutral lips, but if I am going to be on a video call I “take it up a notch”!

Some Final Thoughts

These are just a few of the easiest ways to add a pop of color to any wardrobe. There are endless ways to add color to your closet and if you want to shake up your color vibes, I’d love to help!

Why I'm Not Going To Talk To You About The Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale.

Theo Pace

IMG_5245.jpeg

It’s that time of year again…The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here! It is always a huge event with lots of great bargains. Everyone is talking about it except me. Nothing against Nordstrom’s…but why don’t I have anything to add?

Recently I posted a social media challenge to my readers to take a few minutes on a Saturday to pull a couple items from their wardrobe to either toss or donate. I always like to suggest donating an item when it is in good condition and could be loved again. One follower mentioned that she was new to the area and asked where I would recommend donating clothing. I reached out to a woman who works for a local nonprofit and asked for her suggestions. This was her reply, “Theo, I have called several nonprofits asking if they’ll take women’s clothing donations. No one is accepting them…We Americans shop and replace so much, I guess, they have all the clothes they need.” You can imagine my surprise.

Why do most women I know say, “I have so many clothes in my closet and yet I feel like I have nothing to wear!” Truth be told, I often feel the same way. I have given this a lot of thought and personally I don’t want to keep adding to my collection unless it’s absolutely something that will fill a void or completes a look.

As a personal stylist, my responsibility to my clients is to help them find their unique look. I want to assist them by starting with basic items and then building upon those basics. If we work together I wouldn’t offer “my picks” without chatting with you and getting to know more about you. These suggestions wouldn’t be helpful to you. They would just be adding even more items to your wardrobe without rhyme or reason. This, in turn, would keep you feeling like you “have nothing to wear.”

So, how do we start? I offer lots of suggestions for building a wardrobe on my blog and social media. I’d love for you to follow me and sign up to receive my emails. If you like what you read and feel comfortable with my advice, then we can begin the process of styling your collection.

Crushable Hat!

This is my go to beach accessory that I carry with me every time we plan a trip to the beach here in our hometown or on our vacation. You don't have to spend a lot of money. Pack it and roll it, it will pop back into place! My go to hat is my Helen Kaminski Packable Hat from Nordstrom.

Sunscreen

A good reasonable clean sunscreen made for everyone is from Beautycounter. It is healthy, with non toxins. This is a definitely a necessity and my favorite Beautycounter products are the sunscreen lotion and sunscreen for face.

Ice Pack Pouch

Inside your beach bag pack Icy Cools Neoprene Insulated Pouch. For all the products that can’t handle too much heat just pop the pouch in the freezer with the ice pack inside the pouch and you will be ready to hit the beach in no time. Since I usually have a bare face at the beach I like to carry my Laura Mercier Hydrating Lip Balm and Facial Sunscreen from Beauty Counter. It’s nice knowing I have my favorite items protected from the heat at the beach.

Personal Cup Holder- No need for beach chairs!

If you plan on staying at the beach for a whole day these “cup holders” are a must. You can easily pack the stackable cup holder that can be placed directly in the sand, keeping your drinks and water bottles sand free.

Sand Problems? Don’t worry I have the best product for you!

Beach Sandy sand remover brushes are my new favorite essential beach item. There are a couple of sizes that really work on just about anything. The bristles of the brush are soft and not harsh on the skin or anything for that matter. It takes the sand off of surfboards, skin, towels, bags, phones, and dog paws too! I’ve put it to the test and this product is a must have!

Beach cover up

I got the thing for you! The Sarong is a great item to have that can be used to and from the beach. There are many colors you can choose from to make your beach style complete. The best part is you can wear this is many different ways that compliment your body and the hot temps outside.

The Towel Deal Situation: I have a game changer for you

Towels are so bulky to pack and don’t really dry quickly and hold so much sand! Well I have a solution for this beach dilemma. It’s the beach towels from Dock & Bay. They are super easy to pack so you won’t need that big towel bag anymore. They come in various sizes, colors and patterns. The best part is they dry very quickly & you can shake the sand right off! It’s the perfect item for your beach bag.

The Thigh Problem; I was not blessed with a thigh gap. Not an issue anymore!

I saved the best for last! Let's be honest, the friction between our inner thighs is a hassle in itself and can be worrisome. The real question is how do we deal with it. Well this product is a life saver and works wonders for me! I learned about this brand from a podcast with Marie Forleo and Katie Sturino (Founder of Mega Babe) and I have been hooked on the MegaBabe brand. Try the Thigh Rescue Anti- Friction Stick! Available at Target & Ulta! Thank me later.

Building On Your Summer Classics With "On Trend" Yet Timeless Pieces

Sol Operation Solutions

I’m excited to show you how to build on your Summer Wardrobe of basics by mixing in some “on trend” but not too trendy pieces to update the looks.

I chose 11 of my “go to” Summer basics to work with as examples. Your basic options can be similar they don’t have to be exactly the same. For instance, you might choose denim shorts where I chose white or black. You might choose a navy, shorter dress where I chose a white longer version.

Check out this IG TV Styling Series @TheRealChachaOlivia for a closer look at all the items and styling tips CLICK HERE.

11 Basics Items you need in your closet

Take a closer look at the Chacha-Olivia: Summer Classics Catalogue

Add a heading (4).jpg
  1. A lightweight dress-Long, short or midi. You can be pair it with sandals or fun sneakers. I get lots of mileage from this dress because it can be paired with so much. You may choose a different length or color but it would still be a great basic in your closet.

  2. A denim jacket- This item is a great match with different outfits pretty much year round!

  3. Solid Shorts- Neutral color

  4. Basic pants- Neutral color

  5. Denim Skirt/Shorts- Length is your preference

  6. Denim Blouse- this is also another great piece to have in your closet year round. In the summer you may choose sleeveless.

  7. Light weight Short Sleeve Blouse- I get a lot of mileage out of this item too! Plus it is really comfortable and cool!

  8. Basic White Tee

  9. Simple white tank- another top that can be paired with everything and a tank top is a must have for the Summer.

  10. Sneakers- White sneaker can be matched with all different colors and styles

  11. Sandals- Pick a neutral sandal that can be switched between outfits

These are all great capsule items. A good rule of thumb, especially for a capsule, is 3 tops to 1 bottom. You could easily pack for a 2 week trip using these items creating around 15 outfits. That is really convenient and you won’t wear the same outfit twice.

On to updating these basics with “On trend” fun pieces to round out your wardrobe and create double the looks!

Take a closer look at the Chacha-Olivia: On Trend Summer Wardrobe Builders

Try adding the following…

*A printed tank. One that will work with 3 bottoms and that you can layer with the denim jacket too. This will give you a sleeveless option for those hot and humid days. Not into sleeveless? We can look at cap sleeve or you will see other options in the catalogue.

*A puffy sleeve is so on trend right now. My advice here is don’t overdo the puff. You will want to wear it in seasons to come! I opted for white and chose simplicity here because I knew I wouldn’t be layering it.

*Add a printed bottom or solid bright color pant or short. You can choose lengths from Mini, Midi, or even Maxi to fit your style.

*Finally shoes can be a great way to add some flare to your capsule items as well give your wardrobe a new look.

Here are my suggestions…

*Slides/Mules are very popular for Summer. You can choose simple again here or add something with some flair. I love this mule option over a flip flop. There is definitely more support and coverage but you still have the feel of being in a sandal.

One of my favorites to add to my capsule items is a trendy sneaker. You can choose a wild print to pair with your basics. You may choose a more mild look but try something that isn’t white!

Some Final Thoughts

Keep in mind ladies that these are my style picks. What I want to encourage you to do this Summer is to step outside your box and really make your wardrobe work for you. I’m all about shopping your closet and getting the most wear from what is in your wardrobe already. It is fun to add dimension to your wardrobe by adding pieces of interest! Please share your photos with me @TheRealChachaOlivia or use #ChachaOliviaStylingTips. I love seeing all your creative minds and confidence bloom through your style.
