Why I'm Not Going To Talk To You About The Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale.
Theo Pace
It’s that time of year again…The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here! It is always a huge event with lots of great bargains. Everyone is talking about it except me. Nothing against Nordstrom’s…but why don’t I have anything to add?
Recently I posted a social media challenge to my readers to take a few minutes on a Saturday to pull a couple items from their wardrobe to either toss or donate. I always like to suggest donating an item when it is in good condition and could be loved again. One follower mentioned that she was new to the area and asked where I would recommend donating clothing. I reached out to a woman who works for a local nonprofit and asked for her suggestions. This was her reply, “Theo, I have called several nonprofits asking if they’ll take women’s clothing donations. No one is accepting them…We Americans shop and replace so much, I guess, they have all the clothes they need.” You can imagine my surprise.
Why do most women I know say, “I have so many clothes in my closet and yet I feel like I have nothing to wear!” Truth be told, I often feel the same way. I have given this a lot of thought and personally I don’t want to keep adding to my collection unless it’s absolutely something that will fill a void or completes a look.
As a personal stylist, my responsibility to my clients is to help them find their unique look. I want to assist them by starting with basic items and then building upon those basics. If we work together I wouldn’t offer “my picks” without chatting with you and getting to know more about you. These suggestions wouldn’t be helpful to you. They would just be adding even more items to your wardrobe without rhyme or reason. This, in turn, would keep you feeling like you “have nothing to wear.”
So, how do we start? I offer lots of suggestions for building a wardrobe on my blog and social media. I’d love for you to follow me and sign up to receive my emails. If you like what you read and feel comfortable with my advice, then we can begin the process of styling your collection.
